本月上海美国中心“与艺术家对话系列”讲座的主题是聚焦女性艺术家为视觉艺术作出的贡献。纵观艺术史，女艺术家尽管数量相对较少，却贡献其独特的视角。近年来在学术界，大家也开始越来越重视女性艺术家的成就，并努力通过接受并认可更多的女艺术家来消除这一性别上的偏见。

The October Monthly Artist Talk series at the Shanghai American Center will focus on the important role women artists have contributed to the visual culture of art. While fewer in numbers, female artists have worked for or alongside their male counterparts to provide unique viewpoints. Recent scholarship, including feminist studies, has highlighted their achievements and art history is now striving to include more women artists into the canon in efforts to break down gender biases.

讲座中，艺术史学者Julie Chun会带领大家纵观历史上男性视角是如何统治了对女性的刻画，并介绍几位不为中国观众所熟知的西方女性艺术家。此外，著名艺术评论人沈奇岚会和观众分享其对一些现当代女性艺术家作品的分析，其中一些作品正在龙美术馆“她们：国际女性艺术特展“以及上海展览中心的“蓬皮杜现代艺术大师展“中展出。

The lecture will open with a historical overview by art historian Julie Chun to explore how the male gaze established the depiction of women. She will introduce some of the notable female artists in western art history who still remain obscure to Chinese audiences. This will be followed by an insightful lecture by Shen Qilan, a well-respected art critic who will share with us her analysis of works by modern and contemporary female artists, some which are on view in Shanghai at the "SHE" exhibition at the West Bund Long Museum and the "Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, 1906-1977" at the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
